Description

Txakoli Izar-Leku

Izar-Leku is born from the intersection of history, tradition, and avant-garde. Inspired by the winemaking heritage of the Cantabrian coast—with roots dating back to the Middle Ages and the pilgrims of the Northern Way of St. James—this sparkling wine recaptures the spirit of those first vineyards settled by European monks in the lands of Gipuzkoa.

The Izar-Leku Mahastiak project, launched in 2015, is the result of a collaboration between the Zapiain and López de Lacalle families, along with the expertise of winemaker Inaxio Manterola in Zarautz. On a 1.5-hectare estate carefully cultivated, the native Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza varieties are used, giving life to this elegant sparkling wine.

1.5 hectares of vineyards cultivated on sea-facing slopes, with Atlantic influence. Sustainable agriculture. (Traditional method / secondary fermentation in the bottle)

From its origins linked to the farmhouse to its place in haute cuisine, Izar-Leku represents the natural evolution of txakoli toward a more complex and sophisticated expression, without losing its fresh, Atlantic character.

The nose offers delicate notes of green apple, citrus, and white flowers. A mineral background and hints of bakery after aging on the lees. The palate is fresh, dry, and well-structured. The bubbles are fine and elegant. The finish is long, with salinity and Atlantic tension.

Ideal with oysters, seafood, sushi, Idiazabal cheese, signature pintxos, or avant-garde cuisine.
