Txakoli Itsasmendi Artizar
The Itsasmendi Winery was born in 1994 through the grouping of several winegrowers whose initial objective was to produce a quality txakoli within the context of white wines in general and transmitting the personal character of our production area to the maximum. Recovering a socio-economic activity as important in Bizkaia as viticulture centuries ago. With an initial three hectares in Muskiz, Bakio and Mendata, a winery with capacity for 25,000 liters was created in Muskiz. In 2003 the Gernika facilities were moved. These years stand out not only for the good acceptance of its Txakoli Itsasmendi among specialized press, restaurateurs and consumers, but also for its capacity for innovation in the realization of new products.
The originality of this product lies in having the freedom to trace its own trail each vintage and that, as a good star, it shines with its own light. It is about opening a path for small corners and viticultural details that are sometimes imperceptible in larger elaborations and whose knowledge is the result of experience, research and the natural variables that occur each year, which can be expressed in all their magnitude.
2014 was a year with a Mediterranean profile, with atypically high temperatures in the first week of September, which advanced ripening and reduced the acidity of the harvested grapes compared to a normal year. The curiosity arose that in the same plot there were two such different expressions of the Hondarrabi Zuri. With almost 10 days of difference in the harvest and two totally different grapes, both with a lot of personality. Since their coupage did not transmit the identity of both separately, we decided to release two Artizars from this vintage. This Hondarrabi Zuri is from a local plot where the potency and maturity led us to make it in a 600-liter barrel with 11 months of aging on fine lees.
At Itsasmendi, we develop sustainable viticulture aimed at integrating the vineyard in a harmonious way in each ecosystem. The permanent study of the ecological variables of the vineyards, respecting the differential character of each one of them, allows us to accentuate the richness that the natural environment provides us in the form of highly differentiated grape qualities.
Aromas of ripe citrus fruits, confit of quince. Very well integrated balsamic and scrub flowers that give rise to a fat, powerful, long mouth with a slightly bitter finish that greatly lengthens the wine. Medium mid palate tasty, saline and a mineral point that provides a great gastronomic journey.
